TriForce WriterSlam UK announces winning script

Five aspiring writers provided plenty of laughter on 19 November as TriForce Creative Network presented WriterSlam UK at the Theatre Royal Stratford East.  Effortlessly hosted by Jason Barnett and Sam Russell, the second WriterSlam featured the scripts of:-

  • Halida Abbaro – Mersey Cumparsita
  • Lynda Clark – Them Indoors
  • Ravdeep Mangat – All Around Avi
  • Rafiq Richard – Black Sheep
  • Esosa Uwaifo – Life Of A Roadman

After receiving over a 1000 entries, the finalists were selected from a shortlist of 20 scripts, with the writers addressing a range of topics from Richard’s Black Sheep ‘I’m the only kid with a muslim mum who loves toad in the hole ‘ to Uwaifo’s Life of a Roadman where every character is not quite as they seem. Directed by Fraser Ayres, the audience was treated to excerpts from the five finalists by a cast of talented actors. Supported by Creative Skillset, Tiger Aspect, ITV, ITV Studios, BBC and Hat Trick, WriterSlam looks for new voices for television from all backgrounds, reflecting Triforce Network’s tag of ‘if you include everyone, you don’t need to exclude anyone’.

Halida Abbaro was selected as the overall winner and receives a paid development commission from Tiger Aspect with mentoring from Head of Comedy, Pete Thornton. The runners up will receive career development prizes from ITV, the BBC, Hat Trick and TriForce Productions.

Fraser Ayres, co-founder and CEO of TriForce Creative Network said: “There’s been a brilliant receptivity to WriterSlam with us being inundated with submissions. We’re discovering remarkable, unheard talent from across the UK and through the processes we employ, are finding those at all levels and all walks of life. TCN encourage anyone and everyone to enter. Every time I look at my award I vow to make the absolute most of the incredible opportunity I’ve been afforded. I’m really looking forward to an exciting period of development with Pete Thornton and co. at the amazing Tiger Aspect Productions.”
