Patients and scientists join forces in the fight against dementia

Dr Llinos Roberts

Cardiff University is one of the world’s leading dementia research centres, and a recent edition of the S4C medical series, Doctor Doctor, took viewers behind the scenes to see the scientists’ groundbreaking work as they try to find the cause and a cure for the disease.

In the programme broadcast on Thursday, 27 June on S4C, series presenter Dr Llinos Roberts met Professor Julie Williams at the University’s research centre to find out more about their work.

In order to proceed with research, the scientists call on the help of volunteers, as Dr Llinos Roberts explains. “The research depends on volunteers, and on the whole people are more than happy to come forward to help. People see the benefits of participating in research, especially if they’re living with the condition; they feel they are part of the fight against it.”
