As part of our mission to take joint responsibility for action on diversity, our CEO group approved a new model for governance, based on cross-industry Working Groups under the CDN banner, to roll out over 2013 and 2014.
The aim of these Industry Working Groups is for senior leaders to come together to agree medium and long-term priorities across the diversity agenda, and to galvanise the industry to achieve real and sustainable outcomes.
Earlier this year we announced that these Industry Working Groups would be appointed in the specific areas of Commissioning, Production and News, and the groups are now underway in a series of first meetings.
The first Commissioning Working Group was chaired by Aaqil Ahmed (Commissioning Editor and Head of Religion and Ethics, BBC), the News Working Group was chaired by Michael Jermey (Director of News and Current Affairs, ITV), and the Production Working Group will be chaired by John McVay (Chief Executive, PACT) in early November.
These groups are part of an unprecedented joint effort to tackle the issues of diversity in a practical, focused way, and signalling direct engagement at a very senior level right across the industry.
Representatives from the CDN Steering Group will also attend relevant Industry Working Groups to act as facilitators, and as a channel of communication for effective cross-group working.
Our Industry Working Group priorities will be approved by the CDN CEO Group in early 2014.
